New Delhi based, Indian sculptor Valay Gada’s work reflects concerns linked to the impact of urbanization and climate change which are causing an erosion of the natural world. The surface seduction of his larger than life botanical works belies a looming threat.  The artist holds that green spaces are shrinking in the absence of urban planning. As water is drained from the earth to feed private swimming pools, a lost Arcadian landscape is mirrored in the sylvan names of high rise blocks. Despite the nomenclature of urban unplanned sprawl the only true colour, outside of artificially sprinkled golf courses, is the ash grey of concrete. Urban drift and population explosion has led to the property boom, a modern gold rush of shopping malls and high rise living that isolates and disintegrates the social fabric of traditional India. Gada’s inspiration also stems from the desire to preserve and adapt India's craft traditions in harmony with nature.

Valay is also an award winning product designer-
